February 05, 2024
2023 was an important and exciting year for us at Amazon Freight. We saw significant expansions in our product and service offerings, boosted our carbon-efficiency, and continued tech innovations in our operations.

Peak performance data taken from October last year reveals we made great strides in our two core offerings: Full truckload (FTL) and Less-than-truckload (LTL) shipping. Let’s break down what we achieved and what it means.
Recap: LTL vs. FTL — What’s the difference?
It’s quite simple. Shippers don’t always need to transport an entire truckload of cargo with each delivery. While FTL shipments use at least the majority of the truck space to store moveable goods, shippers can also use the LTL freight delivery option, paying solely for the space they end up using.

Many vendors prefer to use the FTL option because it’s faster; drivers don’thave to stop for any other pickups or drop-offs for other seller’s goods. However, LTL gives shippers a little more flexibility. With Amazon Freight, you can simply ask for us to pick up a single pallet load of goods. Even if you’re shipping different pallet loads to multiple destinations, we can still collect them in a single pickup for you.

In 2023, we’re delighted at how we’ve built on our already strong performance in 2022. Amazon Freight almost doubled volumes from our 2022 peak. We also achieved nearly 98% on-date pick-ups for FTL orders. In 2024, we remain committed to picking-up the load on the date our customers request.

Preparing for the road ahead
As we begin 2024 in earnest, Amazon is facing one of its busiest periods of the year. While supply chains around Europe are facing challenges this winter, we’re prepared for any disruption. We’re providing severe weather warnings for our partners, along with safety alert functionality for our delivery software, updating drivers’ suggested routes if the weather forecast changes significantly from the previous day, which is especially important if there are potential weather hazards..
